Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who are Wayhome consultations for?
We created Wayhome for homeowners to receive unbiased, personalized expertise for their new build or remodeling projects. We are not a replacement for a general contractor, builder, or project manager, but are your trusted building consultant. We commit to helping you identify any red flags or concerns before and throughout, validate when work has been done correctly, and escalate and help solve issues when it has not.
  • What happens after I book my consultation?
You will receive a welcome email from your Expert within 1 hour of booking. This will include the Zoom call login information, as well as a request to send along any renderings, inspiration photos, project photos, or any other relevant information so we can be best prepared for your call.
  • What is your cancellation and reschedule policy for consultations?
You are able to cancel or reschedule your consultation up to 48 hours beforehand for a full refund. Please note, clients are allowed one cancellation and one reschedule between each completed consultation. Any cancellations and/or reschedules beyond that will politely be declined and charged in full. If you cancel your consultation within 48 hours of the time your consultation is due to begin, you will unfortunately be charged in full out of respect for your Expert’s time, and reschedules will politely be declined. To cancel a consultation, please email us at support@hellowayhome.com
  • I just have one or two questions, is it worth booking a consultation?
Our Expert Call is a 30-minute consultation and perfect for 1-3 questions. A recent customer put it best, "the biggest issue I had during my build was, not knowing what I did not know." What may seem like a quick question usually requires quite a bit of detail for us to give the most personalized and actionable advice.
  • How does the Project Partner 1:1 messaging work?
We use WhatsApp Business for this messaging and it is available from 10am - 6pm EST Monday through Friday. We commit to reply to your question within one hour.
  • What type of questions/topics can I ask my Expert about during our consultation?
We're here to help with any question or concern you may have before, during, and even after your new build or remodel. While we've got a very wide range of building industry knowledge, our Experts have particular expertise in: - Cabinetry, trim, and millwork - Finishing - Painting and drywall - General contracting (sequencing of trades, process, expectations) - Flooring, finishing, and refinishing - Windows and doors - Deck and fence - Carpentry (framing and trim) Our goal is to make you as informed and confident as possible. Rest assured, if we don't know the right answer, we have an excellent network of world class builders, designers, and architects that we can rely on for help.
  • What type of questions are off limits during a consultation?
We specifically do not give advice for plumbing and electrical questions given the state-level license requirement for these two trades. Additionally, we do not give specific structural engineering advice.
  • Will I be able to discuss my needs with my Expert before our consultation?
Yes. During the booking checkout process you will be asked to give a brief description of what you'd like to discuss. Additionally, once booked you will receive a welcome email from your Expert will prompts to send along any relevant designs, renderings, inspo photos, plans, or project photos so we can be best prepared before your consultation.
  • Will I be able to show my Expert my home / room / space during our consultation?
Once you make a booking, you will receive an email asking you to upload materials, including images, renderings, floor plans etc. to review with your Expert during your consultation. We use Zoom for video consultations, which is accessible via your laptop, tablet, or mobile phone camera so you can show your Expert around your space. You can also review additional imagery using Zoom’s screen share feature.
  • Can I record my consultation?
You don't need to! With your permission, we will record the consultation and send a copy as well as some notes on what was discussed after the call.
  • What happens if I'm dissatisfied with my consultation or the advice I receive?
We guarantee that your Expert has the experience required to be able to advise you on most home building and remodeling topics. However, we cannot guarantee that you will be satisfied with all the advice you receive (sometimes we have to be the bearer of bad news) and we therefore cannot offer refunds based on your level of satisfaction with your consultation. Having said this, if you're not happy with your experience, we're not happy. We work tirelessly to make sure your Wayhome experience is delightful, so please let us know exactly what you're unhappy with and we will make it right immediately.
  • What if I don't have time to cover every topic I wanted to discuss during the consultation?
It happens! If you find that you don’t have time to get all of your questions answered, we suggest booking another consultation. We, in fact, created our Project Partner service for this exact situation: unlimited 1:1 messaging and video consultations so you never have to worry about running out of time!
  • What type of device should I use for the consultation?
We strongly recommend using a desktop or laptop for your consultation to seamlessly utilize all of Zoom’s features that will help optimize your consultation experience. This is especially ideal for our Cabinetry Consultation or any type of consultation used to prepare for a project. Your Expert may ask you to take them on a virtual tour, in which case you can join into the meeting using your smart phone or iPad using the same meeting link, or you can carry your laptop or tablet, depending on your preference. The Zoom app will need to be installed on any device you plan to use for your consultation.
